The first thing that catches your eye is the 15th-century Venetian defensive tower standing right at the water’s edge. Over the years it was turned into a hotel, and it still gives the waterfront its historic character. A morning stroll along the harbour, past the moored boats and yachts, is a genuinely good way to start the day. We often just sit on the promenade with a coffee and watch the town wake up at its own pace.

And if you don’t sail yourself, no loss at all. There’s something soothing about watching the yachts and fishing boats come back into port.
Where to eat
The cooking here is simple and Dalmatian: fresh fish and seafood, olive oil from the local groves, grilled meats, homemade wine. The small konobas and little restaurants by the water go for the season and for flavour, not for tourist menus printed in five languages.
